On a cold January evening I took a long walk through the neighboring farms. The snow was refreezing and a crust had formed over the surface. As I crunched through the snow in my walk, I found a gate that separates two adjoining farms. After passing through the gate, I looked back at the gate and noticed the colorful sky tones in the east opposite the sunset. With the broom sage and now darkening cedars along the fence line, in the soundless quiet twilight, something about the scene made me feel lonely. Later in the evening when I returned home, as I sat in front of my warm fireplace contemplating my walk, with the Siamese cat in my lap, and with a glass of Boubon, the feeling of loneliness evaporated.
