Corolla Dune, Choppy Seas

Corolla Dunes is a series of 12 paintings depicting the same location near the ocean at Corolla, North Carolina. Similar to the idea of Monet’s series, "Cathedral at Rouen”, I became fascinated with the light changing through the day, the effect of humidity, and the wind in their effect on the sky, ocean, and dune. While on vacation at Corolla my cottage overlooks the oceanside dunes and the ocean beyond. In “Corolla Dune, Choppy Seas” the strong northeastern winds offshore continue throughout the morning and late afternoon, creating a very turbulent surf. The warm afternoon light envelopes the sea, dunes, and sky.
