Living in close proximity to the Rapidan River, I painted this work as a competition piece in April. I went to the Tinder Farm to ask permission to walk to the river to hunt for a painting location. Leslie Tinder instructed me to take Star, the farm dog, as she would show me the way to the river. As I made my way along the edge of emerging spring wheat fields, Star got out in front of me and amazingly took me to towards the river. As we got close she walked faster until she was out of sight. As I approached the bank of the river, I relocated Star. She had waded in the middle of the river from a sand bar in the river as it started to turn. I had found my motif!
